Katadyn Steripen Adventurer Opti UV Water Purifier, suitable for personal water needs during hiking, camping, and overseas travel. Uses UV-C to treat microorganisms in clear water: 48 seconds for 0.5 liters, 90 seconds for 1 liter; powered by 2 replaceable CR123 batteries, making it convenient to prepare spare power for your trip. When using, follow the manufacturer's manual to select the water volume, stir continuously, and confirm the success signal.
Core Features: Bringing Personal Water Treatment on Your Journey
- Two Water Volumes, Corresponding Treatment Times: 48-second and 90-second treatment cycles for half a liter and one liter respectively, suitable for preparing water in batches using personal bottles.
- UV-C Microbial Treatment: When used correctly according to the manual, it inactivates bacteria, viruses, and protozoa in clear water; the function does not include sediment filtration or chemical contaminant removal.
- Replaceable Batteries: Uses 2 × CR123 batteries, with each set providing approximately 50 liters of treatment, which is a factory reference value; actual battery life varies depending on battery quality, temperature, and usage conditions.
- Optical Water Contact Sensor: The sensor detects water contact to assist the device in operating as designed; it does not measure contaminants or determine whether water quality is safe.
- LED Auxiliary Lighting: Press and hold the start button for 3 seconds to enable the flashlight function. This function is different from the UV treatment lamp; please do not use the UV lamp as a light source.
- Compact and Portable: Weighs 108 g (including batteries), dimensions 15.5 × 3.3 × 2.2 cm; UV lamp lifespan is 8,000 activations.
What scenarios is it suitable for?
- Hiking and Camping: Choose suitable clear water sources and treat in 0.5 or 1-liter batches; prepare spare batteries for multi-day trips.
- Overseas Travel: For microbial treatment needs of clear water sources, use with a wide-mouth container that allows for thorough stirring.
- Pairing with Existing Water Filtration Equipment: When water contains suspended particles, you must use proper pre-filtration to make the water clear before performing UV treatment. Pre-filtration accessories must be prepared separately.
If the water source is suspected of containing chemical contaminants, heavy metals, or is seawater, please use another reliable water source. This device cannot remove these contaminants or salt, nor will it improve the water's color, odor, or taste.
How to use the Adventurer Opti?
- Check and Prepare: Install 2 CR123 batteries according to polarity, ensure the battery cover is securely tightened, and remove the lamp protective cap; fill the container with the corresponding amount of clear water.
- Select Water Volume: Press the start button once to treat 1 liter; press twice for 0.5 liters.
- Immerse and Stir: When the green LED flashes, immerse the UV lamp and optical sensor into the water and stir continuously until treatment is complete.
- Confirm Completion: Identify the success signal according to the manufacturer's manual. If the treatment fails, is interrupted, or the lamp does not light up properly, do not consider the treatment successful; troubleshoot and re-treat.
The indicator light may also indicate preparing, low battery, or other statuses, so "having a flashing light" does not equate to a successful treatment. Please read the manufacturer's manual in its entirety.

Package Contents and Storage Reminders
The package contents listed on this product page are the main unit, protective cap, and batteries. The water bottle in the photo is for demonstration purposes; water bottles and pre-filtration accessories must be prepared separately.
- Protect the lamp from impact during carrying and storage.
- Check battery and lamp operation before departure, and familiarize yourself with the success, failure, and low battery signals.
- Do not mix new and old batteries or different types of batteries.
- Do not bypass the water sensor, or allow the UV lamp to shine directly on skin or eyes.
Common Questions
How is it different from a regular water filter?
This device uses UV-C to inactivate microorganisms and does not use a filter cartridge to intercept sediment. If there are particles in the water, it must be cleared through proper pre-filtration first; do not rely on UV treatment to remove all contaminants.
Can it process murky stream water directly?
This device is only suitable for clear water sources. Suspended particles may block microorganisms, affecting the UV treatment effect; you should choose a more suitable water source, and use pre-filtration when necessary. If there are concerns about chemical contamination, please use another reliable water source.
Can the sensor tell me if the water quality is good?
No. The optical sensor is used to detect water contact and does not have the function of detecting contaminants or assessing water quality. Water looking clear does not mean it is free of microorganisms or other contaminants.
Can I use a regular narrow-mouth plastic bottle?
Do not judge compatibility solely by whether the lamp can fit inside. The container opening must allow the lamp and sensor to be properly immersed, with enough space for continuous stirring; it is recommended to use a suitable wide-mouth container and confirm actual compatibility before purchase.
Can I treat more than 1 liter at once?
The specified single-batch water volume for this model is 0.5 or 1 liter. If more water is needed, please treat in batches using the corresponding mode; do not increase the water volume within a single cycle.
Is 8,000 times the amount of uses for each set of batteries?
No. 8,000 times is the activation lifespan of the UV lamp; the reference treatment volume for each set of batteries is about 50 liters; both represent different specifications.
Can it treat seawater, heavy metals, or chemical pollution?
No. This device does not have desalination or heavy metal/chemical contaminant removal functions; in such cases, use another reliable water source.
