KATADYN Rapidyn 緊急濾水器結構：上桶倒入原水、陶瓷濾芯、下桶接過濾後的水、出水龍頭裝進水壺 — The two buckets are stacked: pour raw water into the top bucket, where a ceramic filter is secured to the base. Gravity pulls the water through the filter into the bottom bucket, and you can dispense water using the faucet on the bottom unit. When the flow rate from the ceramic filter slows down, scrub the surface with the included cleaning pad to restore its performance.

Fast-forward to see murky water turn clear: raw water is poured into the top bucket, passes through the ceramic filter cartridge, and flows into the bottom bucket.

How does the Rapidyn filter without electricity?

The Rapidyn filters by gravity: raw water goes into the upper bucket, passes through the ceramic cartridge into the lower bucket, and needs no pump, power or tap connection. Output is up to about 4 liters per hour, depending on water quality.

What can the Rapidyn filter out?

According to the KATADYN fact sheet, the 0.2 micron ceramic cartridge removes bacteria, protozoa, cysts, algae, spores, sediment and particles larger than 0.2 micron; 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.9% of Cryptosporidium and Giardia. The manufacturer's list does not include viruses or chemicals.

What was the WHO evaluation result for the Rapidyn?

In the WHO International Scheme to Evaluate Household Water Treatment Technologies, round 3 (2020), the Rapidyn met the WHO performance criteria for bacteria and protozoa and was rated 'targeted protection' (one star); viruses need further treatment.
