World Hope Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Case | KATADYN BeFree 3.0L Household Water Filter
After Hurricanes Irma and Maria successively impacted Puerto Rico, water supply and public utilities were damaged, and access to safe drinking water became one of the most pressing needs for families.
World Hope International delivered relief supplies to San Juan, providing KATADYN 3.0L gravity water filter systems and hygiene products to residents, allowing families to treat their own drinking water before public water supplies were restored.

The hurricanes damaged homes and public infrastructure, making many areas temporarily unable to rely on existing water supply systems. Although relief organizations could deliver bottled water and supplies, continuous replenishment was limited by transportation, port, storage, and distribution capabilities.
World Hope International therefore simultaneously provided water treatment tools and hygiene supplies. The goal was to equip families with basic household water treatment capabilities before major infrastructure could be repaired.

The original case used the US version of the KATADYN BeFree Water Filtration System 3.0L. After filling the water bag with relatively clear raw water, gravity allows the water to pass through the filter element, requiring no electricity or manual pumping.
The official case currently lists this historical model as "DISCONTINUED." This case retains the product name and deployment record from that time; the specifications, filter elements, and availability of current 3.0L gravity water filter products should be based on their current product pages.

World Hope International|機構背景
World Hope International is a humanitarian relief and development organization whose work spans disaster response, water and sanitation, health, and community development. In the Puerto Rico case, the organization was responsible for delivering water filtration equipment and relief supplies to affected areas, supporting families during the period when public services had not yet been fully restored.
馬布谷觀察
The role of household water filters after a disaster is to put some water treatment capacity directly into the hands of families when centralized water supply has not been fully restored.
The equipment is small, requires no electricity, and is easy to distribute, bridging the time gap before large-scale water supply facilities are repaired.
Household water filters cannot treat all types of contamination. Before deployment, it is still necessary to confirm whether the raw water contains chemical contamination, oil, seawater intrusion, or a high risk of viruses, and to match appropriate pre-treatment, disinfection, or other water supply solutions based on the risk.
