Fabrics that reach Hilleberg's high standards are usually quite expensive. Because of this, Hilleberg tents have always held an ultimate reputation among outdoor enthusiasts. We continuously test every component—such as tent poles, zippers, adjusters, guylines, and even the placement of guyline attachment points—to increase the strength and durability of our tents. Whether in the laboratory or in the field, Hilleberg is always searching for better materials.
Fabrics (Materials) & Tent Materials

- Tent fabric is the user's most fundamental protection. Hilleberg selects fabrics that have passed rigorous evaluation mechanisms in both the lab and the field, as well as various performance tests. Outer tent materials possess excellent tear strength, high hydrostatic head ratings for waterproofness, and high color fastness. Inner and outer tent materials serve different protective purposes; inner tent materials are designed with user comfort in mind—lightweight, breathable, and promoting airflow, preventing moisture penetration while allowing internal vapor to escape.
The most important floor fabric, in addition to being extremely waterproof, is puncture- and abrasion-resistant, maintaining softness and flexibility even in extreme polar sub-zero environments.
Tent Poles

- An excellent pole structure supports a high-quality tent. Because we believe the poles provided by DAC are as superior as our fabrics, most Hilleberg tents use DAC Featherlite NSL poles. The connectors on NSL poles have almost the same diameter as the poles themselves, making them lighter and stronger than standard poles. We tailor the most appropriate pole length and diameter for each tent: Yellow Label and Red Label tents use 9mm poles, while sturdier 10mm poles are used for Black Label tents designed for extreme conditions.

- All materials other than poles and fabric, such as zippers, guylines, pegs, and other accessories, undergo the same rigorous selection and evaluation.
We use YKK zippers, which we have found to be the most durable and reliable to date; our patented guylines are a blend of ultra-strong Vectran fiber and polyester. The special weave of the guylines makes the ends resistant to fraying, and they are lightweight, durable, have low water absorption, and do not deform under tension.
All tents use different aluminum pegs: Black Label tents use the sturdiest pegs while maintaining a lightweight profile; Red Label tents use pegs that balance lightweight and durability; Yellow Label tents use pegs that emphasize extreme lightness without sacrificing strength.
No accessory is too small to be overlooked. The seemingly simple polyester adjusters are easy to adjust whether the guylines are wet or frozen; whether it is pole sleeves, metal pull rings, peg pull cords, or adjustable peg loops, they are designed to be easily manipulated in cold, wet conditions, even while wearing gloves.
